Curriculum:The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) have been implemented in the Davidson County Schools. These standards represent the K-12 learning expectations in English-Language Arts, Literacy and Math. NC has also adopted Essential Standards in other content areas. The standards reflect the knowledge and skills that students need in order to be college and career ready. It is upon this curriculum that all statewide testing is based. Teachers use their professional skills, unique creativity, and varied resources to teach the myriad of concepts required in the Common Core Curriculum.
Enrichment:Students at Tyro Middle School have the opportunity to participate in art, general music, band, Career-Technical Education (CTE), and physical education during the school day.
Computers and technology:Tyro has an instructional computer lab, a career technology computer lab, a 30-laptop mobile lab, and computers in each classroom. Teachers use computers and technology as teaching tools to assist students in learning required academic material. Students are given opportunities to work individually and in groups on projects that directly relate to classroom work.
Academically gifted:Davidson County program for academically/intellectually gifted students will provide a challenging and rigorous educational experience for students identified as gifted. Our teaching practices will promote student success by appropriately differentiating instruction to meet the needs of each learner.
Testing program:Tyro follows the testing schedule established by the local school district and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. For further information, please click on the testing button on the district home page.
