Davidson Early College High School Application Information for TMS Students and Parents
- Pick up a page of "Application Tips" from the Student Services Office.
- Write a rough draft of the essay questions on a separate piece of paper before writing your final answers on the application.
- Use a blue or black ink pen or type your responses when filling out the application. Do not use a pencil. Neatness counts!
- Make sure that every part of the application is completed.
- Ask an adult to proofread your application for mistakes.
- Ask two teachers to initial your "Teacher Recommendation" forms prior to submitting your application to Ms. Alexander. The TR and Counselor Recommendation Form will be completed after you turn in your completed application.
Students can find the DECHS application on the front page of the DECHS website. Applications can also be picked up by visiting the Student Services Office at Tyro Middle School during school hours. All students are still responsible for turning in their complete applications to Ms. Alexander by 3:00 PM on March 18, 2022. Please contact Ms. Alexander with any questions about the application process.
Proofs of Residency
Please note that the application requires that you submit two valid proofs of residency (i.e. - utility bill, phone bill, rent/lease agreement, purchase agreement) and custody papers (if applicable). Applications turned in without two valid proofs of residency will not be accepted as complete. We cannot copy documents from the student’s cumulative record for the application, but will be happy to copy a current bill and return the original to you. Please contact Ms. Alexander if you have any questions about this requirement.
The application also requires a notarized parent signature on page seven. If you do not have access to a notary public, there may be someone in the front office who can assist you during school hours. Please call before coming to the school if you need to arrange notary services.
Teacher and Counselor Recommendations
Students are responsible for asking two 8th grade core teachers (ELA, math, social studies, or science) to write recommendations. If a student has a 504 Plan or an IEP, he/she must ask the case manager to complete the second recommendation. Students who are uncertain about IEP/504 status can ask a counselor.
Students will give recommendation forms to the teachers of their choice for the teachers to initial. The teacher will then return the recommendation form to the student. Once the complete application is turned in to Ms. Alexander, teachers will be given the forms to write their full recommendations. This will ensure that teachers are only writing recommendations for students who turn in complete applications by the March 18th deadline.
Ms. Alexander will fill out the counselor recommendation form and add the required reports listed on that page once receiving the complete application.
Students and parents are required to attend one DECHS Parent and Student Information Session. Applicants who do not attend a session will not be considered for admission. Session dates and times are available in the application and on the DECHS website. It is the responsibility of the student and parent to schedule and attend the session of their choice directly with DECHS.
It is strongly recommended that students submit applications to Ms. Alexander by Monday, March 14th so that she can review the document for any potential errors. Applications with errors will be returned to students to make any necessary changes. Any applications given to Ms. Alexander after March 15th may not be reviewed and returned for corrections.
Once a student has turned in a completed application, they will receive a written confirmation from Ms. Alexander that it has been accepted. Students are responsible for setting up an appointment with Ms. Alexander to review their application before the due date.
All completed applications should be turned in to Ms. Alexander no later than Friday, March 18th, 2022 at 3:00 PM. Applications received after 3:00 PM on March 18th will not be accepted. There are no exceptions to the deadline, including being absent from school, being quarantined, or submitting the application to other individuals. If you will not be present on March 18th, please ensure that your application is turned in to Ms. Alexander before the March 18th due date. Once the guidance door is locked, no other school employee is authorized to accept an application.
