Special Recognition

Hello! My name is Kayla Martin, and I am honored to serve as the 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year for Tyro Middle School. I am currently in my 14th year in education. I began my career in 2013 as a second-grade teacher at Tyro Elementary School. In 2022, I joined Tyro Middle School as an Exceptional Children (EC) teacher before transitioning to sixth grade, where I now teach mathematics. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education (K–6) from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Outside the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, especially participating in outdoor activities like hiking and camping.  I am passionate about creating a supportive, encouraging learning environment, and I believe every student can learn and grow when given the right opportunities and care.
