Expectations/General Rules:

 

  • Attendance to class and school
  • Be respectful of yourself and others
  • Complete all assignments
  • Participate in class discussions
  • Ask questions before it’s too late
  • Study

 

 

Assignments:

 

  • You will occasionally have homework and it must be done when assigned
  • All homework will be due at the beginning of class
  • Most homework assignments will be graded for completeness
  • When we review homework, you should ask questions if you don’t understand

 

Grading:

 

  • Grades will be determined by the following criteria:

 

60% Major works: TESTS, Projects, Presentations, Labs, etc.

30% Minor works:  QUIZZES, group activities, etc

10% Homework/Class work 

Daily Materials:

 

  • PENCILS No work should be done in pen especially tests/quizzes
  • GRAPH PAPER NOTEBOOK all notes/class work should be done in this notebook
  • GRAPHING CALCULATOR
  • 3-RING BINDER

 

Calculators:

 

  • You will need a GRAPHING CALCULATOR for this class
  • Ti-84 or Ti-84+ is recommended
  • A CLASS SET OF CALCULATORS ARE AVALIABLE FOR YOU TO USE IN CLASS, HOWEVER, NO CALCULATORS WILL BE AVALIABLE FOR YOU TO TAKE HOME

 

What YOU should expect:

 

  • THIS IS AN HONORS CLASS AND WILL BE TAUGHT LIKE ONE!
  • Don’t expect to get an “A” if you don’t do “A” work.
  • GROUP WORK EVERY DAY
  • FAST PACE
  • DISTRACTIONS, DISRUPTIONS, AND EXCUSES WILL NOT BE TOLLERATED!
  • This class is difficult if you don’t pay attention and ask questions
  • This course is rigorous to prepare you for the demands of an ever changing society
  • You will be treated like an honor student
  • You will be doing a lot of READING AND WRITING in this math class
  • This class will prepare you for the high school courses you will take in the future

 

Help/tutoring:

 

  • Help is available if you ask
  • Tutoring will be available during Dragon Time

 

Topics Covered in Integrated Math 1:

 

  1. Multi-step equations
  • One-step, two-step, variables on both sides, distributive property on both sides
  • Word Problems

 

  1. Linear Functions
  • Slope-intercept form, standard form, point-slope form
  • Graphing and interpreting graphs
  • Word problems and tables

 

  1. Quadratic Functions
  • Multiplying binomials & factoring trinomials
  • Opening up and opening down
  • Axis of symmetry, Maximum, minimum, vertex point
  • Zero’s, x-intercepts, roots
  • Word Problems

 

  1. Exponential Functions
  • Growth and Decay
  • Properties of exponents

 

  1. Statistics
  • Scatter plots/bivariate data
  • Correlation coefficient
  • Standard Deviation

 

 

**In addition to the Integrated Math 1 concepts the following 8th grade curriculum topics will be embedded throughout the year.

 

  1. Exponents
  2. Scientific Notation
  3. Systems of Equations/Inequalities
  4. Scatter plots
  5. 2-way tables

 

Standardized Testing

 

You will only have to take the EOC (end of course) exam this year for high school credit.  YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE 8TH GRADE EOG (end of grade) MATH EXAM THIS YEAR!!!!!

 

Benchmark Testing

 

You will have to take a district benchmark test during the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters.  Dates will be determined.  BENCHMARK TESTING SHOULD BE TAKEN AS SERIOUSLY AS THE EOC!

 

I-ready

We will do I-ready a minimum of 45 minutes per week
