REGISTERING NEW STUDENTS

 

All new students will be registered by appointment only. You may come by the school at 2946 Michael Rd, Lexington, NC 27295 (preferred) or call (336-853-7795) during school hours and obtain information about registration appointments. Only a Parent or Legal Guardian may register a student at Tyro Middle School.

 

Procedures for Appointments

Parents who present at the school will be given an Enrollment Packet. This packet will include the following:

  1. Application for Enrollment
  2. Bus Transportation Request
  3. Internet Permission Form

 

Parents requesting information by phone will be encouraged to come by and pick up information at the school.

Applications can also be accessed online via the Davidson County Schools website.

 

Necessary Documentation To Register A Student

The following documentation is REQUIRED at the registration appointment. Registration cannot take place without ALL of these items:

            * A Parent or Legal Guardian

* Legal Guardians must provide the school with custody papers signed by a judge

* Foster Parents approved by DSS must present a letter from the Department of Social Services

                        * DCS does not accept Notarized letters from Parents as proof of custody

* Completed Davidson County Schools Application Form

* Government Issued Picture ID of the Parent or Legal Guardian

* A Birth Certificate for the Student (to verify custody and to verify student age)

* Two Acceptable Proofs of Residency in the Name of the Parent (or Parent’s Spouse if Legally Married)

 

Failure to bring the required documents for enrollment will result in rescheduling. If you have any questions regarding what is needed, please call 336-853-7795 before your appointment. Parents or Legal Guardians

without a copy of a student’s birth certificate can request a copy from their student’s current school.

We require contact information for the Parent/Guardian, as well as Emergency Contacts if you are unavailable. Please have working phone numbers and names of individuals ready. Please make sure you know the name, city, phone and

fax number of your student’s former school.

 

Acceptable Proofs of Residency

There are specific items approved to prove residency in the West Davidson area. Only items from the approved list can be used to register a student. Please note that the proof of residency must be in the name of the Parent or Legal Guardian

(or the legal spouse of the Parent or Legal Guardian).

Acceptable: Any utility bill except cell phone service (landline phone, electric, cable, gas, garbage, water), Tax Listing for owned property (this can be printed from the internet), a complete Rent/Lease Agreement signed by landlord and tenant, vehicle/voter registration. Most utility companies will fax the school proof of service if the

parent requests it. Our fax number is 336-853-7357.

            Unacceptable: Driver’s License, Credit card bills, Medicaid/Food Stamps, Medical/Hospital statements,

            Insurance bills, Magazine, Bank Statements.

 

If you cannot provide proof of residency, you cannot enroll at Tyro Middle School. If there is a reason beyond your

control, inform the Office when you call for your appointment. You may be scheduled to meet with the school’s Social Worker so that we may best address your situation.
